World-brand-building mistakes France’s entrepreneurs make
For instance, say I subscribe to A, B, C & D. If B mentions what A is saying, and links to it, and likewise C to B, and D to C, then soon I'm reading the same thing again and again, and I get bored and overloaded and look to reduce my subscriptions.
What we need, and it's annoying me that we don't have it yet, is to get Gabe from memeorandum to make a meme api that any programmer can uses so that our rss readers shows us all of our content in a much more organized way.
I think the point Stefan is that many of the bloggers aren't adding any significant commentary, rather they are just link to and mentioning sites with significant content.
I hope Scoble can talk to Gabe :)
Still, it's not like I can just flip a switch to activate it. It will cost man-years of development to make it work well, and for various technical reasons, I think it will benefit a smaller number of people than most believe. I expect to make gradual progress toward that capabilty, but I don't see the business justification for jumping in headfirst...
I strongly disagree that it would benefit a few people, imagine the sort of data you could collect. An advertising engine could be built on this so that if everyone is linking to the new iPod then an Apple ad would go there, or if everyone was takling about the Sony DRM issue then there could be a link to napster or itunes.
This could also be built into a social news networking site. I could see what are the most important links my friend is seeing, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. In a world where our tastes are moving further and further into the long tail it is becoming increasingly difficult to find conversation material and people with similar interests. Wouldn't it be nice if I could see the people who are interested in cooking lamb as much as I am, or cheese lovers. News delivery is the first step, the platform is there, I am curious as hell as to what the future brings.
Keep up the great work on the site, it really is a hit.
Thankfully, blogging is getting better, in the sens that newcomers need not worship or link to the toolmakers or the meme creators. The less incestuous blogging becomes, the better it gets.
Fantastic point, you hit the nail on the head of one of the problems facing blogging today.

Sharpreader attempts this already by automatically grouping obvious duplicates however it misses almost as many as it finds.
