Scobleizer: We’re shipping today: the road to Building43

  • vanelsas · 6 months ago
Congratulations Robert! This is an exciting movement, and I'm going to contribute to it.
  • benjaminjtaylor · 6 months ago
    Building 43 on Chrome. Congrats.
  • vedi · 6 months ago
Can't wait to see it! Do you make money out of it?
  • Scobleizer · 6 months ago
vedi: I'm a full time employee of Rackspace, so yes.
  • vedi · 6 months ago
Are you gonna explain how? by selling t-shirts and stickers? ;)
  • Scobleizer · 6 months ago
vedi: we're a cost center right now. I have been on Twitter for more than 900 days and they haven't figured out how to monetize so you gotta give me 900 days to figure it out too. :-)
  • Mark Essel · 6 months ago
You won't need that much time. Create a platform we can contribute to (to support regular brick and mortar businesses on web 2010). Allow us to develop a monetization for our creations and take a cut for publicizing/hosting/drawing them to us.

ps Robert how'd you get friendfeed comments (the ones down below) to show up on this post? I'd love to do that with my blog.
  • lyngraft · 6 months ago
To distribute shirts, I say paint a car like Richard Petty's 43 racecar w/ a Building 43 slant to it and take a roadtrip from SV, CA to SA, TX to meet with Rob & crew with Rocky leading the way shooting them out of the car in one of those t-shirt guns. I'll film the whole thing with you and iV reporting from the road the entire way! :-)

Congrats again Robert & Rob & entire Bldg 43 crew!!!

When did Emperor Palpatine get a job in development at Rackspace?
  • Tinus · 6 months ago
Offtopic: I am logged in with friend connect, why isn't it possible to comment with my Google profile instead of a 'Guest' profile?
  • Scobleizer · 6 months ago
Tinus: I'm using Disqus as my commenting engine here. I don't believe they support Google Connect yet, I will ask Daniel at the party tonight if he shows up (he's RSVPd).

Robert, I really like what you are doing and agree that actively helping all companies come on board with the latest the Internet has to offer will make it better for all of us. I really like the synergy that comes out of it all. I also really want to be a part of it all and will do my best to spread all the love. I also hope to see more an more on Friend Feed - it is the way micro-blogging should be. Again, thanks and I'm looking forward to this afternoon.

Good Luck Robert. If you need a had with the whole paperless office and government angle - I've been doing that for 15 years now and am currently working on one of the larger welfare implementations. twitter.com/markbean

So is Building 43 a virtual world then?
  • Mark Essel · 6 months ago
More like a virtual social hangout. Videos, conversations (friend feed , twitter), blogs
  • ensembleventure · 6 months ago
    Robert,

Nice job. It's about time someone started looking at the "systemic web" in terms of the full eco-system needs, speeds and feeds, as well as the developing infrastructure, and social networking fabrics and how they all interrelate, and not just in terms of funding individual products and services or stand alone companies as the 1980's venture viewpoint did which is 20 years long in the tooth. Today it's about collaboration, alliances, partnerships, execution... Not how can I put all my money and people into a single box (company) and expect it to be productive...

hey bro how did u write long article, i am blogger like u but i am not succesful, go bro go :)
  • STFUScoble · 6 months ago
Q: If Rackspace is paying your salaries and for all your equipment, why aren’t you talking about them?

That sentence gave me a side-splitting laugh. Your PR has become third rate off late. The only thing you are talking about is Rackspace and your site building433 (ha ha ha ha). Great work really!!! Never seen anything like it. Building43!!!!

Cool stuff! Good for you! Can't wait to see how things turn out.

I'm interested in Rackspace's interest in a 35W PC cube that is 3" by 4" in size that can support almost 500 cubes in one 42" rack. AMD is a development partner with ISYS Technologies (youtube.com/isystechnologies) for a very high level review of this technology. We have prototype units and should be in production within 90 days. Avnet is our component and contract manufacturing partner.

Sounds great. It also sounds like another straw for the newspaper industry's back.
