Very true... Good to see that coming out on the iphone - that will be a great app.. However, your right it doesnt come close to Nokia, or what you can do on phones like the Sony Ericson Xperia. Great post.....

Zee: I don't have time to jailbreak my phone. I also don't want to do something that everyday users can't do, or won't do. The fact that "Huh?" is asking the question tells me that's a HUGE problem.
Wow, thats a pretty major limitation. I actually thought Qik was already on Jailbroken iPhones, or at least streaming video was from someone. We all know it has been done (seen the demos at least).
Doing it on the App Store is the real win.

Huh: The iPhone ships with only Apple's applications and the AppStore installer installed by default. This leaves a chicken and egg problem: in order to install software which isn't distributed by Apple themselves through iTunes, you need to run a piece of software on your Mac (or PC) which adds a third-party installer application to the iPhone. Once that's installed, it can install all the other applications you want, without any involvement from Apple.
Scoble: It's pretty trivial these days, download and run an app and three Apple files, press a few buttons, drink coffee, done. Trivial.
As a welcome side-effect, you can unlock (2G) iPhones at the same time, thus escaping the insane official tariff — a massive saving on domestic usage, absolutely essential if you ever set foot outside the country you bought the handset in. I'm doing exactly that a week today; at multiple dollars per megabyte, I couldn't even consider using the Apple-sanctioned tariff. Unlock, and I'll be paying a few dollars per day instead.

Well I'm glad that Qik is coming to the iPhone, but I hoped it would be in the form of an app in the App Store.
I have no desire to "jailbreak" my phone.

The only problem I see here is that the only way to use the live streaming is you need to jailbreak the Iphone to use it. I feel these guys and some other live streaming apps should try and focus on being legitimate.
There is a nice little race going off with Qik , Next2Friends and Flixwagon. I cannot wait to see what happens who will buy who ?

@ Oliver: Yes I've been watching all the live streaming from mobile contenders and waiting for someone to come out on top. Qik is definitly the foremost in people's minds, Next2Friends is the closest thing to instantaneously live from mobile to web, and Flixwagon, well they just have a cute girl. So I'm waiting to see, you can't discount Kyte in this space as well, though I haven't been too impressed, despite Scoble's liking them.

Steve i agree with you Qik have a massive following this is due to them reaching out to bloggers Next2Friends seem to be spending time on R&D and Flixwagon are just in the background same as Kyte i feel its Qik and Next2Friends who will battle it out but as we all know only time will tell.
Steve we all know certain people follow certain brands because of reasons they only know why.

Qik and Flixwagon look really cool. However, like the OP said, lots of people don't want to jailbreak their phones. In the mean time, if you have an appetite for some video snacks, check out vSNAX. We have premium video available now for free.
