Scobleizer: Om Malik and iLike on ScobleShow

  • Say No to Crack · 2 years ago
I've always felt that one of the the most frustrating things about music is finding the good stuff. As someone who doesn't have a lot of free time, I often just listen to the radio, because it's easy and I don't have to spend time hunting.

iLike.com looks like a step in the right direction for finding good stuff, particularly through networks of iLike friends. What I'd really like though is something like StumbleUpon, but for music. I never really thought the random suggested music through services like Yahoo (Unlimited?) were very targetted, so I've always dropped them after only a few months.

Where's the API for iLike? I've come to the conclusion that most services without an API aren't worth using. The only advantage they seem to have over Last.FM is the iTunes integration and free MP3. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool idea, but one that appears to have been done with no compelling reason to switch. Where's iLike's secret sauce?

PS: I think you have the descriptions on the videos swapped.
PSS: You NEED that 2nd microphone :)

Say No: http://www.pandora.com sounds like it's right up your alley, as is http://last.fm.
  • Anatoly Lubarsky · 2 years ago
Robert, you can give a bit volume to it. I hear it on max and hardly can hear anything Om says.
  • Robert Scoble · 2 years ago
Anatoly: hmm, I have crappy speakers here and can hear him fine. Do you have amplified speakers?

Michael: I like Pandora too, but iLike is different, and in many ways, cooler. The interview covers what's different.
  • Michael.NET · 2 years ago
    Robert: No opinion on Last.FM?
  • Robert Scoble · 2 years ago
I've only used that briefly. It looks very nice too. Which one do you think is best?
  • Michael.NET · 2 years ago
Robert: From a social stand point I like Last.fm better, from a streaming radio stand point I think pandora as the edge (the Music Genome project is pretty cool, and just added social aspects, so should be interesting to see how that goes). The really cool thing is that they can work together: http://pandorafm.real-ity.com/

fantastic flash player you have there at Podtech.net! at last! Where did you (i.e. podtech) ordered it/purchased it? I would like to buy similar thing for my http://smartphone.tv video blog!

Great Robert, now your video production work is prefect - with flash player in place!
  • Zian · 2 years ago
What are the little circles doing on your Flash player?
  • Robert Scoble · 2 years ago
    Zian: just sitting there.

Comic: our development team built much of it, but not sure where they got the start from. I'll ask tomorrow.
  • Zian · 2 years ago
Thanks for the explanation. Since they have no function, could they be disabled (or removed) so that the circles are not recognized as a link?
  • Robert Scoble · 2 years ago
Zian: I misunderstood what you were asking about. That's PodTech's logo and it behaves as a link.
  • Anatoly Lubarsky · 2 years ago
Robert: regarding volume - I'm using headphones. Actually, now it is better. I can hear everything, but there is definitely something wrong with sound, I'm not sure what it is. I have good headphones and can hear other sites flashes (like youtube) just ok.

First of all, I just don't understand when you say you are an A-list blogger. What does that mean? Do you lead the industry? Its terrible, I spent the half of my life without ever knowing Scoble or whoever that guy sitting with you is.

iLike is a good service; thanx for sharing. :-)
(how did they get that domain?)

There is more social networking and personalization than the other services.

They should also become part of the MyBlogLog community to enhance their userbase.

I guess those 'circles' don't represent the brand well...

I like the interview with Om Malik.

Pandora works for me. Much easier to use than others I've tried. I just need to be able to display it on my sidebar.
Does Wordpress facilitate Pandora? Must check it out...

Ordinary: usually when people say "A list blogger" they mean that you're on the top 100 list over at Technorati (out of 55 million blogs). But sometimes they just mean you're a jerk and arrogant. ;-)

Great embedded video Robert. Much more likely to watch at least a few minutes of something I was on the edge on. I've greatly enjoyed your video series since moving to Podtech.
  • LayZ · 2 years ago
@20 And that would be both in this case
  • Aaron · 2 years ago
Anyone have any thoughts on Last.FM vs iLike? Horrible name, but curious about a comparison. I have enjoyed Last.FM and like any social network you have to be where your friends are, or drag them with you. The iTunes plugin seems nice. Anyone?

I will admit that the Edwards interview was surprisingly good. Not sure it will help him get elected, but it was somewhat refreshing to hear.

The one probing question I would have liked to have heard asked that NO journalist ever asks a Presidential candidate (or any candidate, for that matter) was: "Mr. Edwards, have you read The Constitution? If so, when was the last time you read it?" If the candidate says yes (what candidate would say 'no' and risk losing credibility even if he had to lie?) then the follow that up with" "What Amendments and/or Articles support giving the President or the Federal Govt the authority to implement some of the things on your platform?"

LayZ: a compliment from LayZ? Damn.

Hi all, it's great to see the feedback on PodTech's new video player. Our team at Vestal Design developed the player over the last few months, communicating closely with the engineering team at PodTech. I'd be happy to answer any questions at jeff@vestaldesign.com.
  • Zian · 2 years ago
    Thanks for the 2nd explanation.
Since you already have a big link ("Visit PodTech.net") that does the same thing as the circles, I think the circles are rather unnecessary.

In general, if you need such a small icon, it would be better to use the favicon for PodTech because it isn't confusing at all.

The one probing question I would have liked to have heard asked that NO journalist ever asks a Presidential candidate (or any candidate, for that matter) was: “Mr. Edwards, have you read The Constitution?

Ahhh, Edwards is the lawyer-ooze type, so he might pass that test more than most. Good ole, #12 and the Revolution of 1800...per se. But Edwards, might hafta pay special attention to Article II part 4. ;)

Tho try that on "History Teacher" Newt Gingrich and he will practically relive the 15/23 Resolves and Article IIish Madison vs. Hamilton debates for yah. :) Really tho, Benjamin Franklin's plea for prayer, in the middle of it all, saved this country. Rich history, but 'Angel in the Whirlwind' indeed.

In comment #20, Scoble said, "Ordinary: usually when people say “A list blogger” they mean that you’re on the top 100 list over at Technorati (out of 55 million blogs). But sometimes they just mean you’re a jerk and arrogant."

Hmm, where in that statement is a distinction being made?

    :-)

    j/k

Happy New Year Robert - I don't think that I've said that to you yet.
