World-brand-building mistakes France’s entrepreneurs make
Might consider getting yourself a PS3 for Christmas (hey, it's only four months away). There is a new puzzle game on there that I'm guessing Maryam would like.
Then you can compare Blu-Ray to HD-DVD head to head in your own living room. I think you'll like the picture quality at 1080p of Blu-Ray better.
another video site which should definitely be getting a first/second look from you is ustream.com.
It does a lot of the things you mentioned Kyte does and it can broadcast it live as well.
Live may not be the right format for everyone, but since you don't edit your videos, it actually maybe a very nice fit for you.
It also has some nice chat features on it as well.
It also doesn't let me record before broadcasting. It's always live.
It also doesn't have as nice a Facebook integration.
It also doesn't let me upload from my Nokia N95.
If Ustream and Kyte combined i think you would have a pretty robust offering there.
I've been a "regular" in your Kyte.tv room, and feel the interrupted video take a away from what the experience could be were you broadcasting live. sure it's easier for you because of your n95, but when you are sitting at a coffee shop or at home broadcasting how hard is it to use your webcam. If you have a powerbook that's built-in.
As for the audio/video part of the chat at this point because of the lack of context i look at these at nice little gadget but of little use. Imagine your chatroom if folks only replied with video or text. You'd have to go through every single one to get a sense of content and threads.
I think it comes down to personal choice and preference. I'm not really sold on either right now. Leaning towards Ustream because of the webcam integration and live component.
And i agree with you whole heartedly that voice is far more powerefull than text. I'm actually working on an app to add context to voice. That's all i can say now. :)
Thanx for engaging
Thanks for posting this , let me get my recent Video comparison blog entry pimpage out of the way

Now lets talk Kyte.tv.
First, it was your adoption of the technology that lead me to Kyte.tv and from there to consider what it offers to the producer of content. Of all the sites I have played with Kyte.tv feels like a site where you can publish content that fits within the Microformat media genre. I have often compared it to the twitter of Video Blogging. At first I kinda bridled to the lack of Live content and then it "clicked" as to why this is actually a feature and a value add to this content. Why ? Well because the chance to stop and redo an idea increases the likelihood that I will stop in and create. So your thoughts on that reflected my own and it was interesting to see the different sides to the same coin in that realisation.
Now Adobe.
If Windows has Windows Media Player, and Macs have Quicktime and Linux has Totem then the Internet has Flash Video Player. I have bounced this idle speculation around before but Adobe seem to be keen to embrace and extend their own technology to incorporate support for more formats and platforms. Adobe seem to becoming the media player for the Internet and thats a very strong position to have ownership of in the long term.
Thats all for now thanks for the post and thanks for taking time to do it.
Nice comparison of the 2. I happen to love Kyte and the things that they are doing. Daniel their CEO is a great guy as well. I did not realize they are redesigning their player. I hope it does not screw up my blog where i have it. ;)

Just did a video review on my Kyte channel with slides of the facebook app on an iPhone simulator. I also like the fact that I can roll slide shows, transitions, embed links, embed logos and video all in ONE screen with Kyte. Nice multimedia experience in my opinion.
That is one of the really cool things. Nice talking with you the other night. Take care.

A good comparison about those two services.
You are already used to the new chatting features:
Video/Audio chat instead of text chat is way more powerful!
Operator11.com is great! We use it a lot in the Netherlands to broadcast our own shows. What's so good about is is that while live you can switch to other users and "give them teh camera".
I just got a http://www.mogulus.com/ account but cannot say much about it yet.
I think Operator11 wins...
I also use Wordpress. Let me take a different point of refference to make my point.
I like Kyte rather than YouTube.
1. Seems cleaner
2. Seems a better breed of video tool
3. Seems more professional in format
The advantage of YouTube today is the amount of plugins we have.

I think what this discussion shows is that video is the future of online communications. Ultimately, we are visual creatures, and the desire to see is so strong that we put up with what are still very early-stage implementations.
At Ustream, we believe that the interactivity of live is a killer app, but I can also see the importance of recorded as well. No one would argue that the music industry should consist solely of live performances, or solely of MP3 downloads.
Ironically enough, when the phonograph first came out, musicians fought the technology tooth and nail, figuring that it would kill the market for live performances.
The real interesting challenge is finding a way for all of these platforms (PodTech, Kyte, Ustream, Operator11, etc.) to work together. I'll be watching with great curiosity.
Chris Yeh
CEO, Ustream.TV
I think you just posted a message that threw your employer under the bus. WTF-- you basically just admitted that Kyte has more end-user functionality than the guys who write your checks.
When you watch Lost do you care how that got to you? No.
What I find amazing is how quickly video has become part of the personal content distribution. As a particular fan of audio podcasts, I almost feel sorry that podcasting might never really get its day in the sun because video will just become the dominant medium.
WTF? Then why the hell do you care that Dreamworks went with HD-DVD? Why the hell do you care if your HD TV monitor supports 1080p or not? Why the hell do people bitch about the quality of DirecTV's HD signal? Why the hell do football fans want EVERY NFL game broadcast in HD? Because they DO CARE how a program gets to them
Since you don't care how a program gets to you, can we have no more whining about not getting HD content through your cable or satellite provider?
5 major studios vs. one, and double the sales with Blockbuster going only Blu...what will you bet on? Man, stay away from Vegas or the stock market, with your picks. You did notice in that "exclusive" the Spielberg exception clause? Interesting, eh?
But really why do you care so much? Get a hybrid and be insured against all the insanity.
The NY Times has confirmed via two Viacom executives, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, that Paramount has received a $150M pay-off to support HD DVD exclusively for a period of 18 months. The $150M is comprised of cash and future marketing deals. Also re-confirmed is that the deal includes no films directed by Steven Spielberg.
-----------
"Paramount pisses me off!", Michael Bay says, "I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"
One distribution method has a cost involved. Bluray and HD-DVD players are expensive so most people will only buy one.
But Web distribution methods? They are all free to you.
Not the same thing.
I really don't care which Web video distribution method you use as long as I can watch your video.
But if you make me buy another player to watch your movie? Yeah, I'll care about that.
In the long run, though, the format wars go away. One of my friends gets all his movies from Bittorrent.
You have been incredibly patient with him till now. If you really hate the idea of imposing even such a limited form of censorship, please try to ignore him, but I know that I would have a very tough time doing so.
If you don't start disallowing LayZ from commenting here or don't learn to ignore him completely, the danger is that either you will turn off commenting for all your readers or even worse you might get so fed up that you will quit blogging.
I and many others love your blog and find it highly informative and entertaining. Please do not let a few rude people amongst your audience to destroy this wonderful blog. Remember, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few!
