Scobleizer: Introducing ScobleShow

  • Ryan Stewart · 3 years ago
Looks great Robert, congratulations. I do suggest you stop by the Adobe offices in San Francisco though, there's some very cool stuff going on over there :). Good ScobleShow fodder.
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
Ryan: I'd love to. Adobe invited me over to see something else next month. But it's a big company with many moving parts.
  • David Geller · 3 years ago
Congratulations. Just started downloading one of the episodes. Look forward to many more.
  • radaronpaws · 3 years ago
Robert, this looks great, but... the subscription page sucks. When I use the iTunes option it just brings me the InfoTalk by PodTech podcast. Just post the rss feeds somewhere so I can manually put the feed info into iTunes.

The subscription page has to be the most confusing for any podcast/videoblog I've seen, and the fact it doesn't work makes it even more useless.

Please don't take this as a reflection on your show, which I haven't watched yet, but please seriously talk to your web UI guys about that horrible subscription page. Worst UI I've seen in awhile.
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
radaronpaws: I TOTALLY agree. So does the Web team.

This is priority 0 to fix.
  • radaronpaws · 3 years ago
Thanks. Sorry for the negative criticism. :) I am downloading a couple episodes and am looking forward to them! Thanks for including the show length, btw.
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
The engineers are working on the page. I can't even figure out how to subscribe either.
  • skc · 3 years ago
I think the link to the Tim Bray interview is busted.
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
skc: yeah, it worked earlier. The engineers are still moving stuff around. I'll make sure that gets fixed.
  • Ted Demopoulos · 3 years ago
No more breakfast and raw meat ?? :)

    It looks great.
  • Chris Paton · 3 years ago
Great stuff! One comment - could you increase the volume of your questions as they are very quiet compared to the interviewee.

    Chris
  • Thomas Wenzl · 3 years ago
Great line-up for your ScobleShow, Robert. Good work! In some videos so volume is a bit bad, that's may be something that could be improved in future videos. I also have problems in accessing and viewing some of the videos with IE7 RC1 or Maxthon and Quicktime - with Firefox it works just great.
Looking forward to more of this stuff.
  • Diego · 3 years ago
Robert, will you be posting that geek language war footage you said you recently taped?
  • C.C. Chapman · 3 years ago
Love the idea and look forward to it, but where do i subscribe? No feed button on the site? No little orange happy button? What gives.

Looking forward to the kinks being worked out
  • Mitch Tenderson · 3 years ago
I hope it goes well for you. For me, I think it looks to "businessy". I doesn't look like any real persons are involved. I get the feeling somebody is trying to make money of off of me.

I've read and liked your blog everyday for over two years, that doesn't automatically mean I will trust your company. What do you stand for? What is this show about? Why should I trust you?
  • Volcane · 3 years ago
Having some issues acessing podtech, seems some routing/outage on the way to your nameservers from where I am, annoyingly the administrators of podtech.net put both the nameservers in the same location, pretty bad network design.
  • Brian Sullivan · 3 years ago
So this looks like it really could work (as opposed to the rambling telephone call podcast of the other other day).

It seems to carry on the tradition of your Channel 9 interviews (but better -- the touch of production added seems to be just right).

I had some technical issues as well with the subscribing. I am not sure the .mov only format is great either (maybe QT and Windows Media options?) as QT seems less than friendly on my IE7 browser.

Stay away from rambling telephone calls -- do more of this.

Diego: the language war is up now.

C.C.: the feed icon is coming. It's the #1 thing on my list of things that needs to be done.

Chris: yes, I'm getting more microphones. That'll help. One thing because I'm doing all my own camera work I don't always get the best audio. Gotta do better on that.

Mitch: >>I doesn’t look like any real persons are involved. I get the feeling somebody is trying to make money of off of me.

Hmm, I generally am talking about tech and business. Both subjects where they ARE trying to make money off of you. But, did you watch Photowalking? That was pretty non commercial. There will be other things like that that are purely fun. And, none of the people paid me to be on the show.
  • Nathan Weinberg · 3 years ago
Robert, great set of interviews, right out of the gate. But for gods sake, please mic yourself! Your name is in the title, I damn well better be able to hear what you're saying!
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
Nathan: we have more microphones coming. Sorry about that.
  • radaronpaws · 3 years ago
Robert, congrats on the show being up now, btw. I enjoyed the two I watched (Thomas Hawk and language wars). I don't remember there being any info in the language wars about who those dudes were though - some background info would be nice.
  • Thomas Hawk · 3 years ago
Thanks Robert. I thought the Photo Walking episode came out really well. Looking forward to the next episodes in this series and doing more of these. It really was a lot of fun. I threw another photo of our walk up on Flickr today http://www.flickr.com/photos/thomashawk/253375694/ and have a complete set of the walk available in a SmartSet up on Zooomr here:

http://beta.zooomr.com/smartsets/thomashawk/1913 All the shots are avaiable in high res if anyone wants to download any of them.

Hope to add more shots to the Zooomr set in the next few days.

At first glance, this looks really cool! I can't wait to test it out more...and will provide my thoughts soon. Great work team!!
  • Albert · 3 years ago
I really like the photowalking, interesting stuff. A pity I have to convert to Divx to watch it, takes a little time. Guess I have to blame myself for hating kwiktime so much...
  • drallas · 3 years ago
    He robert

I'm glad your "back" i'm looking forward to many more enjoyable inside interviews.... You're questions are often the ones i would like to ask myself.

Could you do an item about how IT and technology are becomming more and more usefull for sporters (not only pro's)

    http://www.adidas-polar.com/

And please try to sneak inside Microsoft once and a while for the scobleshow as well.
  • Russ Henry · 3 years ago
To bad the Channel 9 server is having run time errors.
Just e-mailed a few DOD app guys to check it out.
  • TAG · 3 years ago
    Robert,
You are poor man submitting own stories to Digg.

You used to talk about influencers (http://scobleizer.wordpress.com/2006/08/27/goog... ) and how it's good that geeks real your blog - not simply a dumb mass of newspaper subscribers.

If your new show was interesting - then somebody for sure will submit it to Digg. Unfortunately looks like you don't believe in it's quality.
  • George Luft · 3 years ago
Robert, I wish you well with your new show. The bleary-eyed meta video was a great way to kick it off with a personal touch.

Is there any way you can distribute these files with BitTorrent? These things are friggin' huge!

I'm surprised more (any??) torrent-aware podcast clients don't exist. You should be able to host an RSS feed of torrent files, and even run your own tracker--all for a lot less bandwidth than you'd burn serving up all these files yourself. And ultimately, everyone would get quicker downloads.

Please do not forget transcript or subtitle for all those video and/or podcast!!

Robert, great videos. I really enjoyed photowalking and the printing for less tour. Keep them coming!
  • Brian · 3 years ago
Liked the demo Robert! I still think you should be screencasting parts of it, but we can continue that debate. :)
  • Will · 3 years ago
    Hi Robert,

Any chance you could add a few additional formats to the list, please?

Preferably Flash Video embedded on the site so I can watch during my lunch break at work.

I also can't play Quicktime on my PDA (another place I listen to/watch video/audio casts for my commute).

I'd give some feedback on what the show was like.. but err, well... I can't watch it (for the above reasons).

    Cheers
  • Shaula Evans · 3 years ago
Congratulations on the launch. Quite the explosion of content to get started with, too -- nice choice.

I hope there's been much rejoicing and active celebrating around your office this afternoon. :)
  • Eric Skiff · 3 years ago
I've got democracy dumping videos to our MythTV setup in the livingroom (think open-source iTV :) ) and my wife and I watched two episodes from the couch tonight.

    A few thoughts:

    1) I'd really love to hear you better. You've invested in great cameras, please consider investing in some sort of audio upgrade as well (be it wireless lapel mics, or even just a simple external mic you can set on the table between you and your interviewee)

    2) This is going to be amazing!

Seriously, that was just about the only criticism I had. We watched the interview with the Sun CEO (very interesting to hear his take on open source Java and why Sun matters) and the JotSpot demo, which certainly caught my interest.

I'm a geek, so keeping me interested in these topics isn't hard. The beauty is that Sara said "that looks very cool" after watching the jotspot piece, which means she was engaged and interested!

Great work and good luck! I think great things are ahead.
  • Brook · 3 years ago
Loving the content, but I can't hear everything. You have a volume issue. Fill the interview environment with 100 microphones, take all the audio files and convert them all to mono. There will be an echo, but I don't care because at least I will be able to hear what is being said.
  • Dan · 3 years ago
Five seconds into the Schwartz interview and you're already doing the nervous laughter thing...
  • Alfredo Octavio · 3 years ago
Great videos, Robert! And thanks for putting them in a logical format. This is the first time I can see your videos without jumping through hoops and I appreciate it. Already subscribed. Keep it up!
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
Dan: I laugh a lot even when the camera isn't on. If you got to know me you'd know that.
  • Joe · 3 years ago
Congrats on the launch. Carol is looking forward to demoing :) Come on over anytime!
  • Diego · 3 years ago
"Diego: the language war is up now."

    Cool! Thanks Robert! :)
  • Dan · 3 years ago
Robert: I know! That's my chief complain with the C9 interviews. And any time I've seen someone interview you.
  • André Hedetoft · 3 years ago
Scoble. I love the concept. Hell a while ago I though about launching something similar. But I think we are missing the most important thing. YOU. Don't get me wrong, I'll watch the show sometimes for the great stories, companies and demos. But what I want is more of you. Your opinions. Your thoughts. Your wild questions. The same reason I don't read your blog just to know more about tech, I read your blog so that YOU can tell me more about tech.

I think you have to put you in the show more!

Otherwise, keep up the great and inspiring work!

If you like, I'll happily cut you and awesome trailer or short clip that could help spread the word about ScobleShow?
