I use Joomeo.com too. It's quite good but I prefer flickr.

Hi there,
I have to say that I really liked Flickr but since a few months I discovered the photo sharing service Joomeo.com (http://www.joomeo.com) I don't know if you know it, I just came back from a field trip in France and I am enjoying it since then.

Ahhhh... my first photowalk. Loved it! Although, my dogs were TIRED! a LOT of walking. My first time hanging with uber-photo-geeks. Very insightful. NOW I HAVE QUESTIONS! I'll be compiling a list- :-)

Why does it seem that the people who say "your camera does not matter" always seem to have expensive camera equipment? If the camera doesn't matter, I wonder why Mr. Rockwell invests in such expensive camera equipment? I wonder why he doesn't use a disposable camera for all his work? I mean, if the camera doesn't matter it shouldn't make a difference, right? ;-)

Faces.com is my favorite photo sharing site because it allows you to do so much more than just photos - you can share music for example. It's a pity I'm in Australia - or I'd join you for a photowalk - perhaps you should come down this way sometime ;-)

Photowalk9: A good time was had by all! Thanks to Robert and Thomas for another great photowalk. I will have some photos up soon.

Camera: You asked what I was using on the walk - Canon Rebel Xt with the EF-S 17-85mm IS lens. I am happy with it and IS has saved the shot on many occasions. However, it is just a matter of time before I pull the trigger on a 5d. :)

And thanks for another great day out yesterday. The lighting was terrific, weather nice and cool, and my macro lens definitely got a work out building abstracts out of the great (mostly) American automobiles of days gone by.

I think which system you go with is less important than the flexibility of that system to grow with you. Both Canon and Nikon have a broad array of lens from very cheap to very expensive.

Personally I love Canon prime lenses.

But both Nikon and Canon make some of the best lenses out there.

The key is that you go with a system that has the breadth to grow with you. Personally this is why I mostly recommend Nikon and Canon vs. Sony, Pentax, or other DSLR systems. It's not about what you end up wiht today, but what you will end up with in the future.

Oh my. If you thought the Mac vs. PC war was emotional, ask photographers about their stance in the Canon vs. Nikon "battle". The differences are more religious than factual.
Fact is: hardly anybody has both cameras; independent of which camera they have, people tend to like and "prefer" it.
If you want a "real" recommendation: read the posting of Ken Rockwell (a very accomplished photographer himself), entitled "Your Camera Does Not Matter". Required reading for everybody "in the market". http://www.kenrockwell.com/...

I love Flickr as well. I used to casually browse it, but only recently did I really start to become involved and discover all of it's wonderful intricacies. Best of all, I've always been interested in photography but never pursued it, and lately Flickr has inspired me to work on my skills - so much so that I picked up a brand new dslr on Friday. I owe this to all of the great photographers on Flickr whose work I've been admiring, Thomas Hawk being one of them.

Robert, If you are looking at any Canon below the 5D compare it side by side with the Nikon D80. The Canon's are great products but they feel cheap in comparison. That said I would love to get the new Canon Mark III.

For my thoughts on photography and other things check out my blog. Not Trying to plug. Just went through the same decisions you are now a while back.

With a new baby on the way make sure you don't wait too long to get the new camera.

I love ipernity more than Flickr and also Zooomr too. Cause, first of all it's an European (French) based service. I think ipernity will be greater than Flickr and YouTube.

I think Ipernity will soon become a decent replacement for Flickr. It has audio, video hosting too. You can also have your blog there.

Furthermore, its functionality and social features are not less than Flickr.

I just love the Canon 400D with a 75-300 lens(I get amazing results with it).

@met - if you want value, the Nikon D40 is stunning. Don't bother with the Sony Alpha, a friend has it regrets purchasing it. I am looking forward to a Nikon D80 shortly, but the Canon XTi is a similarly powerful and full-featured camera.
