The best and worst thing Twitter did in 2009: RT
1) Yes
2) Saturday - Tuesday
3) Memphis Style Best - But From Austin Now So Know Good Texas BBQ.
4) Sure - Live Here.
5) Yes - Limited Creation/Distribution
Shoot an email if interested.
1.) yes, i am taking the week off to stain my concrete floors. Feel free to stop by and lend a hand.
2.) All of them. No need to rush over, there will be plenty of work all week.
3.) I do.
4.) Yeah, part of being a native i guess.
5.) I did Final Cut support for awhile, but now mostly just make videos of my kid.
You should go to The Salt Lick. I am vegan, and know dick about finding good bone to gnaw on, but everyone here swears by the place. I know Mike Doughty (NYC Musician) paid for an 80 dollar cab ride to get there and back. He is a avid fan of the place. Enjoy your stay in town!
Most likely.
2) Which evening is it?
Not sure yet. Still sifting through the events with friends that are going
3) Do you like BBQ?
Yup - last year I went to a BBQ place walking distance from the convention center (Iron something was the name) and it was good ol' fashioned homestyle bbq....my vegeatarian friends didn't approve....they aren't coming this year.
4) Will you have a car at SXSW?
nope.
5) Are you a video blogger or somehow involved in video media creation or distribution? (I need panelists)
Sorta....probably not at the caliber your looking for.
BTW we 'sort of' met at Northern Voice....chatting with Kris after his photography session. Email me if you want to BBQ together.

5. I second Salt Lick. It is a bit of a drive 30-40 minutes outside of town, but definitely worth it. If you only want to drive 15 or so minutes from downtown go to the County Line. There is also a less formal (ie. no waiters) place called Rudys... most of the Rudys are in gas stations. Wife and I used to love that place, fast, they have tables and it is good food. If you need places that are must stops for breakfast while in town, please email me Robert - I lived in Austin for 6.5 years while I was in school and swimming there - know all the great stops.

The place I'm talking about is called Iron Works (http://www.ironworksbbq.com/ - thank you google).
Not sure how it compares to the Salt Lick as I've never been...but I heard that was good too but it wasn't walking distance and we were carless.
Iron Works was pretty rustic and homestyle....and you can hit it for lunch during SXSW if you beat the rush of geeks.
Rob
I'll be all over that!
Hey man, just moved from the Valley to Austin a few months ago and have been checking out ALL of the BBQ joints. I haven't finished my tour yet, but soon after you get here, you have about 50 million recommendations to go to Salt Lick. The original one that is. The one that's 30 minutes outside of town in a small town called Driftwood. (Everyone recommends against anything but the original, though there is at least one other one, which I happened to drive by today). So I went to the original, and it was way good (Much better than County Line, though the County Line is a hopp'n place. Rudy's is also good if you want something fast... the atmosphere doesn't match the food, unlike Salt Lick or County Line). So I have also been referred to Iron Works, for the bar. Haven't been there yet. Let us know where you decide to go, and maybe we'll crash your party:-) I would hit the Driftwood Salt Lick for an early dinner, and then head downtown to 6th Street for the night. It will be wild.

3. Hells Yeah
4. I could if I needed to

I don't but I'm good friends with the Excutive Producer and the Director from Hatchling Studios. They do all of their distribution on the web and have an animated short at SXSW Film. They don't do video blogging specifically, but they have gained a lot of success through YouTube and their podcast. I'll send you an e-mail with some details after I talk with them tomorrow.
Could someone do a 'sxsw in fifteen words' for a common man like me?
2) Oh all right then. Any evening except Monday.

>> Yes.
2) Which evening is it?
>> Sunday evening is best.
3) Do you like BBQ?
>> Absolutely. Salt Lick in Driftwood and Kreuz's in Lockhart are the best, but they're 30-40 minutes away. In town, perhaps one of the two County Line locations.
4) Will you have a car at SXSW?
>> Yes. Can fit 4-5 passengers.
5) Are you a video blogger or somehow involved in video media creation or distribution? (I need panelists)
>> Not involved. Just an interested party.
I live in Austin...and YES...if you have never been to the Salt Lick, you must go there. Do not be duped into the shorter drive to the Salt Lick on Loop 360, you MUST drive out to the original one in Driftwood, Texas. It is about 35 minutes from the Convention Center (without traffic, but is rare to not have traffic in Austin)...but well worth the experience.
If you want a good hole in the wall BBQ place you have to go to Sam's on East 12th Street. Not the safest neighborhood in town...but good food.
Enjoy your visit to my fine city! I expect some good blog posts from you about what you encounter in this fun town.

Completely unrelated -- have you tried vlogging using a Nokia N93i? Check out www.myphonerocks.com... Decidedly and unapologetically pro-Nokia, but why not as he (too) works for the company. Still -- have you tried it? What did you think?

Also I love BBQ too. It's one of my passions. I don't know Austin or Texas BBQ very well, so pleas please please let me know when and where and I'll be there. I have a good friend in Austin that is a big foodie and he would surely know the best places.

Can't wait for SXSW!
I can get a car. Easy. I'll drive. Heh. Saturday evening bbq? How good would that be? II'll bring along the M-Audio micro-track. Love that little gem. Video creation, distribution? That's what we are all about at SplashCast.
See you at sxsw! Are you there Friday? Come and check out the panel I am moderating "The Real Story Behind Snakes On A Plane" Rumor is that the panelists will be "in character." Free snakes at the door! Hey, what about "snakes on a bbq?" :-).
5) Sure, I work on the video side at www.imeem.com in business development - what is the panel topic?
I'm the leader of Social Media Club Austin, and I can help find a qualified video person for your panel. I already have someone in mind who would be great. E-mail me for specifics.
As the above comments indicate, Austin has great BBQ. However, if you get a craving for ribs or brisket between Texas trips, SV has 2 pretty good options: Uncle Frank's in Mountain View and the Texas Smokehouse BBQ in San Jose.
my Uncle Frank's review
my Texas Smokehouse BBQ review
1) Do you have an evening free while you’re at SXSW? -- Yes
2) Which evening is it? -- I can make time :)
3) Do you like BBQ? -- I live in KC, so of course
4) Will you have a car at SXSW? -- No
5) Are you a video blogger or somehow involved in video media creation or distribution? (I need panelists) -- I'm debating if I should do a video blog while I'm at SXSW. I'll be writing for Adrants and Shake Well Before Use
I wanna go to BBQ and am looking for people to do that with. Where should we go? -- Anywhere and everywhere!
So far I'm free Saturday through Monday evenings.
BBQ - Yum. Let's definitely do barbeque. Just let me know when. I'm at the Hilton across from the Convention Center.
Car - 'fraid not.
Video Blogger - Yes, with the unique perspective of a screencaster. I'd love to do a panel with you. We can talk about how fun it was to do the photowalking/photoshop shoot.
Not sure of a barbeque place, but last year we went to a very cool outdoor beer and burger place called Hills Country Cafe, where I got to swoon over Kris Kristoferson up close. I think they're having the Texas Heritage Music Association awards there on Sunday.

Iron Works is very nice and walking distance from the convention center... It does get busy, though.

As a local, my preferences in order are:
Lockhart, TX: Black's for sausage, Smitty's for brisket, and Kreuz' Market for the legend (the first two did it for me, so I've never managed to make it there.) It's about a 45-60min drive and they close at 8pm. If you're driving that long just to get to the Salt Lick, drive another 15 minutes or so - the BBQ in Lockhart is far superior.
Ruby's (29th & Guadalupe, north of the UT campus): Not to be confused with Rudy's.
Iron Works (1st/Cesar Chavez & Red River)
Green Mesquite (S. Lamar & Barton Springs Rd.)
Artz Rib House (S. Lamar)
Salt Lick (Driftwood, TX) or Salt Lick 360 (Loop 360 just south of the bridge) if you want a cloth napkin.
Those who prefer vegetables or need a break from BBQ are directed to Casa de Luz (buried on Toomey just north of Barton Springs Rd.) It's macrobiotic but they do a great job.
