Scobleizer: First in line

  • Tris Hussey · 2 years ago
Here's the perfect time for someone to show you their line of solar rechargers for laptops, etc. They have coats, bags, panels ...
  • Steve Rhodes · 2 years ago
Couldn't one of you go into the Apple store and charge some batteries?

I've never been to the Palo Alto store, but the SF store has plenty of outlets.
  • Hamid · 2 years ago
Robert, the videos are great. I'm impressed by Patrick's intelligence. Amazing.

I just wrote an article on how Apple could have a $2 billion day...

I thought you might enjoy it.
  • Larry · 2 years ago
You are a great Dad. Patrick and the baby you are expecting are fortunate.

I do stuff for/with my son all time that, to others, makes no sense. In time it will...
  • Jeremy Herbel · 2 years ago
Am I the only one that finds it ironic that you're waiting in line to buy something with an irreplaceable battery, and your batteries died?
  • Neuromancer · 2 years ago
Have fun and if you see a Google guy (google product product manager) called chey say hi for me
  • Curt · 2 years ago
    Does anyone really care?
  • Philapple · 2 years ago
I saw on a video your Twitter Tshirt...Is adorable...Where did you get it? :-P
  • T Man · 2 years ago
@6: That's more than just irony. That's just plain stupidity.
  • Paul Roundy · 2 years ago
I want an iPhone eventually, but I learned long ago not to go after first version Apple products. And I certainly wouldn't camp out for one.
  • Brett · 2 years ago
You're also on Fake Steve, for better or worse.
    http://fakesteve.blogspot.com

Have fun! Enjoy the iPhone...I am jealous.
  • Jonathan · 2 years ago
Are you going to try and buy your iPhone on your corporate account and then be pissed when you can't.
How does you waiting in line coincide with the earlier reviews of the Nokia phone you raved about and thought it blew away the iPhone?
    Confused here
  • Steve Rhodes · 2 years ago
Not having a removable battery isn't a big deal.

I could get another battery for my treo, but I haven't. And I'd probably get a new phone before the battery needs to be replaced.

Not having a slot for an SD card is a bigger issue.
  • Roger von Oech · 2 years ago
Nice to see you on Palo Alto Online and on Fake Steve. Love your photo. Now that's another thing we have in common: we've both been photographed by Norbert von den Groeben:

I'm in the second lane from bottom with white cap with red "S."

Have fun! (I'm sure you are).

Where's the power inverter for the car? Just put the laptop in there for a bit while it charges both batteries and call it good. Oh, and make sure the car is within sight so you don't go to get the laptop and find a broken window instead.
  • Joe K · 2 years ago
First in line... you gotta buy the really big ones. It looks like they only have two!
  • Anand · 2 years ago
Cool stuff, Robert. I drove by the store :) - looks like Patrick is having fun.
  • Tony Bove · 2 years ago
Here's a ditty to sing along all night long.

We've Got to Have iPhones Today

    by Tony Bove
(Set to the tune "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" with apologies to Lennon and McCartney)

Here I stand, head in hand
Turn my face to the door
    If it's gone I can't move on
From the line at the Apple Store...

See "A Song for the Apple Store Line" for the rest.

Robert - nice reporting. Well done. And, Patrick is an impressive communicator. Clearly taking queues from Dad. I'll be heading to an AT&T store in Issaquah tomorrow. A little sad that I can only buy one. I had plan to pick up about five for various folks at WhatCounts and Eyejot. Might have to make another trip to the Bellevue Square Apple store Saturday... if they have any left. BTW - give this a try: http://alpha.eyejot.com/microsite/iphone_demo (requires Safari 3). Hopefully it will work on the real device. I know the iPhone can't record video (for now; easily changed with a software update). I just hope it can play embedded Quicktime! See you at Gnomedex!

Well at least you finally realize it: "We’re still the first two idiots in line."

    :)
  • Nima · 2 years ago
Robert, didn't you take issue with the touch screen on the iPhone because you wouldn't be able to use it under the table at meetings? Did you stop having meetings or something?
  • Shawn Christopher · 2 years ago
Congratualtions Robert, you're now on par with Greg Packer

I'm kind of jealous. Yet I don't have the money for a $500 phone nor do I want to switch to ATT. ;)
  • Jonathan · 2 years ago
    @24:
    They stopped having tables
  • Matt (Mastaglach820) · 2 years ago
Robert, just saw you (and I believe your son) on CNBC.
  • Miles · 2 years ago
I'll watch after The Office. :) Have fun, wish I could get an iPhone here in MI, but I can't.
  • loujosephs · 2 years ago
So are you talent or are you tech. Talent puts you in my union AFRTA, if you opt for tech you could be NABET or CWA. Either way with the amount of air you are hogging, being an AFTRA member would get you talent fees everytime they talked to you. Nabet and CWA you just have to look like you'd break legs. (old joke no offense meant I have worked with both unions)

The reviews: Mossberg gushes the headline is the Iphone is a breakthrough handheld computer.

Steve Levy turned WTOP's news-talk fm here in DC sort of a brownish hue, talking about how great it is.

I've met Walt and I do trust what he wrote. And by the way he has the 1st video on the allthingsd site.

Yeah got to buy some APPL before it becomes too pricey, this is going to print money for Apple.

FYI: AT and T is sponsoring the ATT National with Tiger Woods down the road from where I live at the Congressional Country Club in Potomac, I got a PR release yesterday that talks about the PDA device they will give to fans who ask for it to check the PGA tour website for the scores and the IBM shot link information. ( Palm did this when they were a company) And they also will have a broadband app that will allow you to enter into the the AT and T blue room. And by the way Verizon has the area wired for high speed TV and Internet via fiber.

Best of luck to you and Patrick. I look forward to reading a comparison between iPhone and your Nokia-95 that you have been carrying around. Hope it measures up to its label: God Phone.

I stopped by to visit with Greg Packer, the first guy in line here in New York and got a video clip of him. You can watch it here http://kamlabhattshow.com/blog/2007/06/29/who-g...

Can't wait to see your review of it, Robert.

Oh, btw, not sure if you've been following ZDNet's blogger coverage of the iPhone-its been a bit controversial, given the negative aspects they have focused on. Now that Kingsley Hughes dude has resorted to moving from critizing the PRODUCT (iPhone), which is legitimate, to attacking anyone interested in buying the iPhone as "Stupid" (The "Stupid Rich").

So ZDNet has resorted to attacking users and potential users of a product thru name calling, rather than just reviewing/criticizing a product. Very classy!

(Note that he doesn't have an iPhone yet of course)
  • Matthew Miller (aka palmsolo) · 2 years ago
    Robert,

I followed your example and my two oldest daughters just had to be a part of mobile device history so now we are here first in line at our local AT&T store in Puyallup, WA huddled under umbrellas in the rain. They are 13 and 11 and so now we get to buy 3 iPhones for the family.

Have a fun and safe night and enjoy your iPhone!

Would you consider getting it unlocked from AT&T so far?
  • Chris Kameir · 2 years ago
The best application of the iPhone I have seen so far was on willitblend.com ;-)
