Scobleizer: Does Twitter make you a better blogger?

  • LayZ · 2 years ago
Yes it does make your blog better Because, to quote Menachem Mendel: "Not everything you think should be said. And not everything you say should be written. And not everything that is written should be printed"
  • Anthony North · 2 years ago
Or, to paraphrase Mendel: 'Not everything you think should be thought. Not everything you say should be said. But everything you write should be written. That way we all have a laugh.'

Or you could install the WP widget that will place your tweets here on your blog and have the best of both worlds.

twitter is the best thing since blogging. Too much text is just not required for some things you want to say and the 140 character limit is more than enough.

    Microblogging rocks!

Twitter is a huge waste of time for most of it's users because a) they post inane things like "i'm feeling hungry right now", etc. and b) they don't have the kind of following you have and are likely to be lost in the crowd. It looks like Twitter does indeed work for you and the few people like you, but for most it is pretty worthless beyond the initial entertainment factor.

It's a better place for asides than in a blog, that's for sure.

Yes, as you stop posting inane things on your blog and microblog it.

Helps you stop clogging the RSS's

If someone is boring you on twitter, just remove them from being a friend. Easy. Or don't read it.

Entertainment: yes. We all need some element of entertainment in our lives, surely??
  • Damon Billian · 2 years ago
I personally don't see how one could compare twitter to blogging. Most of the blog posts I see require some degree of thought and/or intelligence, whereas twitter seems more involved with "inane" thoughts that one might share w/o that "lightbulb" moment.

Having read through some twitter posts by friends, I can honestly say that I am really not that interested in what they had for lunch, what they watched on TV, or what plans they have for the weekend (unless they want me involved, of course).
  • Robert Scoble · 2 years ago
Damon: maybe you need better friends!

I just ran into the CEO of SmugMug. He's on Twitter. He's not the only smart guy on Twitter either. And, the smart people don't just tell you what they had for lunch. They tell you about cool things.

I'll file Twitter under "Things I don't get" right beside Second Life. Must be getting old.

    Scoble,

I would like to know, how secure the password stores in twitter is. I felt like, they are not making a one way encryption for our password. In their terms and conditions page, I read the below line.

    3. You are responsible for keeping your password secure.

But I would like to know, the steps they are taking for storing the password in their servers. I even made a post in my blog, explaining why I got this question.

Hi Robert. I write some similar here in order to write How to be a "blogstar".

I've been using Twitter now for a bit and am just getting the hang of it, but I think it's made me a better blogger, and also introduced me to blogs I normally would not have found.

I messed with twitter for a few days, even had it feeding a widget on my blog, then I realized, do I want people knowing what I doing at this exact moment? What if I am avoiding them! :)
  • Rob Everton · 2 years ago
Why couldn't you accomplish the same sort of purge using a tumblog? That way, you can at least make the history easier to follow. I've been trying that on Tumblr with some success.

And here's a great way to waste some more time with twitter, viewing random twits in your favorite Virtual Earth - turn on 3D for best effect!

It may well be a waste of time, but so what? Let's not bash entertainment! On the plus side they didn't call it twatter - that would have been a serious problem.

P.S. I'm developing a plugin to my wiener which updates to its activities to twitter!!!!
