I wonder how they did such a fool job??

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

In all honesty, bloggers need to get slapped down, hard, now-and-again. Just because you're an arrogant SOB doesn't mean you're always right (or in the right). I'm hardly going to cry that Don was slapped down; it's about freaking time....

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

Sorry, that should have been laugh, not laught -- Paul

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

We can all fault Canon, claiming they made a PR blunder, but wait a minute: Canon's act of pulling the video has, in fact, created more PR -- witness this post by Scoble and the discussion we're having. Who's having the last laught, PR wise? :-)

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

"Let’s show what real Americans support……. You don’t have to give your name or email address in order to vote. It’s very simple."

Not sure what this has to do with the post. But I am curious; when do you suppose they are going to put a poll up asking if Barry is qualified to be President? He's the one running for President, not Palin (I don't know why people haven't figured that out yet). He has absolutely NO experience running even the smallest of government organizations. Go figure.

(and for the record, neither does McCain or Biden. Which is why this is possibly the worst Presidential election in history. There's a reason this country has traditionally elected governors, or former VP's)

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

Wow. I'd be careful oversimplifying this. While it may have certainly been a mistake, there are plenty of reasons why a brand might choose to protect it's intellectual property online. Maybe Canon invested a lot of money in commission Laforet and they have other plans for the content that suddenly have a lot less impact when people are embedding the raw video all over the Internet. Of course, this was probably more of a ham-handed mistake but let's not jump to the conclusion that everyone who doesn't allow blogger free-reign on all their content must be an idiot.

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

Yeah, Kal, this is definitely the forum to bring up Sarah Palin and the "left wing" media. Why didn't end with a "sieg heil" while you were at it. Robert. please take that crap down and delete my post, too, and stay within at least 100 miles of the topic.

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

Odd developments, but frankly not surprising. Hopefully Canon gets their PR act together. They're missing out on some great opportunities.

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

I have seen this happen with Microsoft, Intel and AMD. When we produce better videos then they do we're affecting the inner politicts of small groups within these large corporations.

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

Any yet it their actions will have not negative affect on sales. It seems that someone at Canon has come over all, "I must be in control", "I decide what does and doesn't happen".

If they'd have sat down before this all happened and thought of how they would like the PR to go - they'd have jumped at the viral buzz created by Don's post.

Bonkers.
Paul

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

Maybe they did this because lenses used to film it cost more than device itself, and ordinary user would not get anywhere close to the quality shown in this video?

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

I bet there was some copyright issue involved...

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

By the way Canon, I'm still alive and well!!

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

Do you mean like this?

http://pass-ed.blogspot.com/

I actually thought that Don did a very nice job of posting this video.

Re: Canon takes good PR and throws it in the trash

Because apparently free marketing is bad for you.
