Scobleizer: Calling all dead programmers and unemployed videobloggers: Off the Grid Camp starts August 6

    Is there Wifi?
  • Gabe · 3 years ago
    (Joke, hehe.)
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
Chico Hot Springs has Wifi. My EVDO card works there, too, but we'll try to stay off the grid as much as possible.

Hey, if World War III breaks out my mom even owns part of a nuclear fallout shelter and enough food to feed hundreds of people for months.

Sounds like a great idea, Robert. I hope the unemployed vlogger shows up. I wish I could make it as well. Loved your book, by the way! Tom S.

I think my new baby travel restrictions will be lifted by then - I'm in.

Sounds like the perfect time to morph my previous Technology Stragist and IT Consultant life with my current 4x4 Weekend life. Robert, I'll send you mail, but I thin this would be good for me and fun too!

Sounds great. What airport do you fly into ?
  • paul · 3 years ago
Wish In could find a way to get there....anyone driving cross country?
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
Scott: Bozeman is about 1.25 hours away.

If you want to hold a future event that is seriously "off the grid", then you can hold it out here on the Outer Hebrides. That's an archipelago off the west coast of Scotland. There's enough accommodation, and the standard pursuits are exploring deserted beaches:

...drinking local whisky, sitting around peat fires, ceilidhs (music and song in the Gaelic language), and eating local fish.

For people who still need their fix, there is broadband, and in a few places, wi-fi.

I just went for a week without the internet and I really struggled!! although I guess being around other nerds would be better than having the internet, right??

Well I can't come to you're little gathering, not unless I suddenly get the time off work and a few hundred £'s to get the plane from the UK to USA.

Sounds cool, thank you Robert - pencil me in! If someone is coming in from the Spokane area, please contact me ('cause it would be nicer for me to hitch a ride than to rent a car at the airport)...
  • Robert Scoble · 3 years ago
Jean, unfortunately I won't be online much during the campout. I will be doing some video blogs, though, which I'll be happy to share after I get home.

Udo, I'll probably be driving through Spokane and will have an extra seat! I was hoping not to have to come back to Washington, though, but wouldn't mind going out of my way.
  • Doug · 3 years ago
Udo, I may be coming from Spokane.

This is awesome Robert. I have plans to head to Colorado that week myself. I will be in the mountains enjoying microbrews. It will be good to get a break from the screen.

I am a former MNN Producer student of Jay Dedman.

"OffTheGrid" should always be suffixed by (TM)or Trademark. This gives notice to the public of your intention to eventually file for Federal name protection with the Patent and Trademark Office. If you eventually put the name on a Shirt, cup or whatever, tell the graphic artist, printer, etc, to always affix the symbol (TM) in the circle. But, never put the (R) for registered in the circle until you actually receive a trademark registration number from the Patent and Trademark office.

When you file your application for a trademark, select the purpose category of: "Intentions to use the name is a trade or business". This gives you more leeway to prove that you are actually satisfying the requirements for using the name in a trade or business, rather than choosing the option: "Presently using the name (or mark) in a trade or business.
