Scobleizer: Blog business opportunity: overseas blog networks

  • Mike Butcher · 2 years ago
FYI Rob, TechCrunch has a UK site too (I run it). Both TechCrunch UK and Blognation have both been appearing on Techmeme for weeks now - you must have just missed us. I should think Techmem's issue is just about breaking stories, which TCUK is doing. Want video too? That's easy. Actually I emailed you months ago about doing stuff on Podtech, remember? Good luck discovering the rest of the planet.

Mike: I don't see Blognation on TechMeme's leaderboard. Yeah, I've seen some posts on TechMeme, but not very many. Certainly far fewer than show up on my link blog.

Thanks for the shout out Robert. We're still in the early stages of getting the network built out (Russia just came online and we have a few other countries in various stages of development). When I had the chance to join Oliver Starr on the US blog and work with Sam, I jumped at the chance (and I don't need to tell you that leaving ZDNet was not an easy decision!).

We are assembling a great team of well-respected bloggers from around the globe and have some exciting things planned for the coming months. Stay tuned!

Hey Robert thanks for the shout out! I'm really excited to be a part of this new network.

I love the chance to write for a larger audience.

Thanks from Japan Robert! Pleased to see you're watching as we put things together.

The sun TRULY never sets on blognation. We collaborate 24 hours a day to keep an eye and what is happening in our own corner of the world regarding tech, as well as everything else in it. Also trying hard not to be just part of the echo chamber as well. Cheers.

This is great....we all love techcrunch, but they are either too busy or not as motivated anymore. I submitted my company www.crazymenu.com, we have several products (one patent pending) and everyone from Raffe at webware.com to others who have seen our products, rave about it. But I didn't even got a simple acknowledgement email from them, not even an automated one telling me if I am in the queue or anything.

In contrast Raffe of Webware.com was very gracious and we exchange several emails and that was during a very busy time for him covering a tech convention.

The same thing was with the TC20 or should I say TC40-something. They could have quickly emailed the ones who didn't make the first internal cut.

TC is getting so bad that just the other day I was speaking with another entrepreneur who also applied for TC40-something and he suspected all the picked ones where not on merit but through connection and he felt the same about write-ups. This is obviously true in any business, but the point is TC diminishing brand among some people.

So I am really glad to see other emerging players. What TC is going through is natural, when you become this big and everyone who you meet tells you how great you are-and can you do a write up-it all gets to your head and you become complacent. To be honest, I would too. And the only remedy for this, is good old competition.

Podshow expanding internationally? Could be risky business! I suggest doing like Curry sausage does: opens new divisions AFTER getting deals with local companies, not before.

Anyway good luck, if you need advice regarding European countries - let me know through email, Robert!

    Thanks, nice education for me.

I’ve seen some posts on TechMeme!

About being first - haven't you guys learned anything about that from your wifes and girlfriends? ;)

Techmeme is not about breaking news, it is about news which are written about at the moment. Well, the algorithm is based on news submissions running especially around the valley business, as well as the english based sphere, we have known this for quite some time, not that that is going to change any time soon.

Robert: To bad you will not be able to hop over to the Expo in Berlin next month where you could meet a lot more of the European sphere and make a lot of video. Anyone else coming over from Podtech?

In case it is a women, she might actually attend the Girl Geek Dinner. ;)

You might want to do a DNS lookup on blognation.com. There may be more to your review of blognation than you imagine...

And WeblogsAFRICA (http://www.weblogsafrica.com) should have been here a year ago, but for my heart :-)

The idea was to bring out that little spark of light shining though the darkness on the continent of Africa --- to tell the stories of the heroic young men and women who are fighting the odds, breaking all barriers, building businesses, and creating wealth for themselves and for their respective countries.

But a sudden heart disease, and subsequent frequent visits to hospitals over the last 15-months have brought everything to a halt.

And finding someone to run the show hasn't been fun either.

Good luck to the BlogNation folks.

A Place in the Sun Live is by far the best overseas property exhibition in the UK.

It continues to provide the best choice and opportunity for comparison in the complicated world of overseas property, whatever the reason for purchase.
